6 th 6th day? Answer Verified 154.3k+ views 1 likes

Hint: In a day we have 24 hours. So first we will calculate minutes gained by the clock in 24 hours because in question we have to find time shown on 6 day. Also in a day from 12 night to 11:59 in day we write as A.M and then from 12 in day till 11:59 in night we write P.M.

    Complete step-by-step solution -

In the given question the time shown in the clock at

    1 th 1th day is 11 a.m.

If the clock gains 12 minutes in 12 hours so in 24 hours the clock will gain 24 minutes.

In 12 hours clock gains 12 minutes

So In 24 hours clock will gain 24 minutes

According to this time gained in 5 days

    =24×5=120 =24×5=120 minutes

And we know in 1 hour there are 60 minutes

    1 hour = 60 minutes

    Hence 2 hours = 120 minutes

So after the 6 th 6th

day the time will be 2 hrs deducted from the time shown on the clock.

    So time showed on the

    6 th 6th day = 1 p.m.

    So, the time = 1 p.m. – 2 hours = 11 a.m.

Note: In this question time gain in 12 hours is given so we first need to find time gain 24 hours. It is the most important step in this question. Here we should also have the knowledge about the unit conversion of time from minute to hour and hours to day.

Minute hand (MH) travels 10 min i.e 60° fast in 24 hrs. So MH travels =24×360+60 = 8700° in 24 hrs.

Time elapsed from 8AM Monday to 6 PM wed. = 58 hrs i.e. 58×360 degrees which are equal to 24×58×360/8700 = 57.6 hrs real time i.e 58–57.6 = 0.4 hrs or 24 mins behind the indicated time.

So actual time is 5h 36m

    5.36 pm.

From Monday 8 am to Wednesday 8 am, REAL TIME, during those 48 hours, the clock would have gained 20 minutes, showing 8:20 am.

Remember, 1450 minutes by fast clock= 1440 minutes or 24 hours real time.

Now, the defective clock has moved from 8:20 am 6:00 pm, a total time duration of 580 minutes “ as per running by the fast clock”, so the real time is 580*(1440/1450), passed during those 580 minutes , which equals 576 minutes, meaning clock gained ANOTHER 4 minutes from 8:20 am to 6 pm, totalling 24 minutes, hence 6 hours -24 minutes = 5:36 pm

A clock is set right at 10 AM. A clock gains 10 minutes in 24 hours. What will be the true time when the clock indicates 3 PM the following day?

    For 24 hrs i.e. 24x60= 1440min, there is a gain of 10 mins.

So the ratio of real time to the time of the clock is 1440:1450 = 144:145

    Here, Time elapsed in the clock is = 29 hr i.e. 29x60 = 1740

So, the real time (a) can be found by

    144:145::a:1740

    a= (144x1740)/145 = 1728

So the real time would be 2:48 pm

Originally Answered: A clock is set right at 8 a.m. The clock gains 10 minutes in 24 hours will be the true time when the clock indicates 1 p.m. on the following day?

The number of hours between 8am and 1 pm the next day are 29 hours. So using proportions

If 10 minutes are gained in 24 hours, then approximately 12 minutes would be gained in 29 hours.

When the clock indicates 1pm the following day , the correct time is

    1pm -12 minutes= 12.48pm

A 12-hour-dial clock happens to gain 0.5 min each day. After setting the clock to the correct time at 12:00 noon, how many days must one wait until it again indicates the correct time?

If the clock gains 0.5 minutes a day, the next time it will read the correct time is when it is ahead by 12 hours, assuming it is not on military time. At 0.5 minutes a day, it would take 2 days to be ahead by 1 minute, 120 days to be ahead 1 hour, and 1440 days to be ahead 12 hours. So 1440 days, 2880 days if it is on military time.
