Length of the rectangle, l =70 mSolution Verified by Toppr

Breadth of the rectangle, b =52 m

Length of the rope =28 m

Shaded portion AEF indicates the area in which the horse can graze. Clearly, it is the area of a quadrant of a circle of radius, r =28 m

Area of the quadrant AEF =

4 1 ×πr 2 sq. units = 4 1 × 7 22 ×28×28=616m 2

∴ Grazing Area = 616 m

2

Area left ungrazed = Area of the rectangle ABCD - Area of the quadrant AEF

Area of the rectangle ABCD = l×b sq. units

=70×52=3640m 2

∴ Area left ungrazed =3640−616=3024 m

A horse is placed for grazing inside a rectangular field 70 m by 52 m. It is tethered to one corner by a rope 21 m long. On how much area can it graze? How much area is left ungrazed?

Answer:

Length of rectangular field = L = 70 m

Breadth of rectangular field = B = 52 m

So, Area of the field = L x B

= 70×52 = 3640

Area of the field is 3640 m^2

And, Area of the quadrant of radius 21 m = 1/4 x 22/7 x 21 x 21

= 346.5 m^2

Area available for grazing = (Area of the field) - (Area of the quadrant of radius 21 m)

= 3640 - 346.5 = 3293.5 m^2

**Thus, 3293.5 m^2 area is left ungrazed.**

Area of the grazed field

= θ 360 × π r 2 = 90 360 × π ( 21 ) 2 = 1 4 × π ( 21 ) 2 = 346.5 m 2

Total area of the field

= 70 × 52 = 3640 m 2

Area left ungrazed = Total area of the field - Area of the grazed field

= 3640 − 346.5 = 3296.5 m 2 Suggest Corrections 26
