The auspicious week which marks the 716th 'Urs' (wedding or spiritual communion) of Hazrat Amir Khusro Dehalvi, or 'Satrahvin Sharif' (Holy Seventeenth) as it is recorded on the 17th day after Eid-ul-Fitr, recalling the life of the 13th-14th century Sufi poet on his death anniversary becomes lessons into love, devotion and syncretic culture of the Indian subcontinent.
Amir Khusro was given the title of 'Tuti-e-Hind' or Parrot (Voice) of Hindustan for his influence on Urdu-Persian-Hindvi poetry, as well as his contribution in Hindustani classical music; composition of Khayal, Tarana, Qawwali, and the invention of tabla.
Even though Amir Khusro is mostly remembered as one of the founders of the syncretic traditions of Hindustani culture, his devotion towards Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya tells us that he would prefer to be remembered primarily as his 'mureed' (a seeker).
Khusro's relation with his beloved Mehboob-e-Ilahi (beloved of God) is narrated through his poetry, dohas, stories, qawwalis which still continue to circulate throughout the subcontinent invoking love, faith, devotion, spirituality and ecstasy. Khusro was known as 'Miftah-al-Sama' (the key of religious ecstasy) by his beloved Khwaja. It was both in his life and death, that he continued to remain inseparable from his beloved Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya. On the knowledge of his beloved's death, Khusro left all worldly possessions, retired to the tomb of his beloved to mourn his death; and was finally united with him after six months of his Khwaja's death. Khusro was buried within the premises of the shrine.

I am the body, you are the soul.
So that no one can say, hereafter,

"Khusro the bride spends the wedding night awake with her beloved,
The body belongs to her but the heart to him, the two have become one”
