    Puzzle: A snail wishes to reach a water shore. To do this it must cross a wall which is 30 feet high. It has a time limit of 30 hours to reach atop the wall. The time starts as soon as it starts climbing the wall. However, he faces a problem while climbing. Every hour it climbs the wall 3 feet up, it slides down 2 feet. This occurs every hour. So how many hours will it take for the snail to reach atop the wall?

    Solution: Let’s think this thoroughly.

    Every hour the snail climbs up 3 feet, it slides down 2 feet. So, the actual height it is climbing in 1 hour is 1 foot.

    Similarly, in 25 hours, the snail would have climbed 25 feet, in 26 hours it would have climbed 26 feet and in 27 hours it would have climbed 27 feet, but things change after 27 feet.

    As we know, the snail covers 3 feet up in 1 hour. So, in the 28th hour, the snail would have climbed 30 feet up the wall and would have reached atop the wall. Therefore the answer to this riddle is 28 hours.

    28. Assuming you climb 3 ft then drop 2. You get to 27ft in 27 hours then climb 3 feet to get to 30.

    Possibly 29 hours since before the 30th hour you would be climbing the 3 ft achieving the height before the hour is up and before sliding down the 2 ft. But most likely 30 hours as your reasoning makes more sense

    So you’re progressing at a net positive rate of 1ft/hr. 30ft @ 1ft/hr = 30 hours. I could be wrong though, I’m not a mathematician lol!!

    Those answering 28 are not taking their height into the equation. If you are 6 feet tall, then the height to be climbed is only 24 feet. /s

    As the snail climbs 3 feet and slips 2 feet its progress in one day is 1 feet.

    So in 27 days it can climb 27 feet.

    And on 28th day if it climbs 3 feet it will be out of well and it cannot slip down.

    I wont go in to the specific solution of this problem only but also generalize it rather!

    When we solve these questions we should consider maximum height travelled in a day,which might look a bit confusing but it's actually a simple formula from sequence and series.

    Tn=a+(n-1)d { let this be equation-1}

    here in this case a=max height in first day i.e 3 feet ,Tn=30 and

    d=(climbed height-slipped distance) i.e d=(3-2) or, d=1

    So now we need to solve for n, i.e no of days to climb it

    Solving equation 1, n=(Tn-a)/d + 1 n=30–3/1 + 1 n=27+1 n=28

    Therefore it will take 28 days
