**Calculation:**

Let x1 be least number and x10 be largest number

according to question

⇒ x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 + x6 + x7 + x8 + x9 + x10 = 47 × 9 = 423 ----(1)

Similarly,

⇒ x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 + x6 + x7 + x8 + x9 = 42 × 9 = 378 ----(2)

Subtract equation 2 from 1

⇒ x10 – x1 = 423 – 378 = 45

Sum of 10 observation from equation 1 = 423 + x1

⇒ Now minimum value of x10 will be 47 and minimum value of x1 will be 2. hence minimum average = 425/10 = 42.5

⇒ maximumm value of x1 is 42 hence maximum average will be 465/10 = 46.5

⇒ Difference of average = 46.5 – 42.5 = 4

**∴ The maximum possible mean exceeds the minimum possible mean by 4**
