Why do ionic compounds have high melting point?

    Explanation:

An ionic bond is formed by the complete transfer of electrons.

Cations and Anions formed in an Ionic boding.

The cation and the anions are connected in ionic compounds through high electrostatic force.

An electrostatic force is the bond is the attractive force between particles are caused by the electric charges. Thus, it becomes very difficult to separate the particles from one another which causes the high melting point.

So to break the electrostatic force of attraction present between the ions large amount of energy needed and that is why Ionic compounds have higher melting and boiling point.

Conclusion: Ionic compounds have high melting points due to the presence of high electrostatic force.

Why do ionic compounds have high melting points?

    Answer

Ionic compounds are closely packed structures made up of ions of opposite charges (cations and anions).

The large amounts of intermolecular force of attraction lead to strong ionic bonds.

A large amount of energy is needed  to overcome these forces .

That is why the melting point of ionic compounds is very high.
