Let the speed of boat and current be x km/h and y km/hr respectively

Upstream speed = (x - y) km/h

Downstream speed = (x + y) km/h

As we know,

Speed = Distance/Time

Condition first x – y = 4/2

x – y = 2       ---(1)

Condition second x + y = 4/(1/3)

x + y = 12       ---(2)

From equation (1) and equation (2)

x = 7 and y = 5

Require time to cover 21/2 km in still water = (21/2)/7 = 21/(2 × 7) =
