    Plot[edit]

High school student Jirō Yakuin is an introvert who would rather keep to himself and play video games than interact with others. He has unrequited feelings for his childhood friend, Shiori Sakurazaka, but the school has implemented a couples training (夫婦実習, ) program, which has the students develop social skills on interacting with a partner as if they were married, and they are judged heavily on how well they work together through monitoring. Despite hoping to be paired with Shiori, Jiro is instead paired with Akari Watanabe, a who finds Jiro repulsive and who would rather be paired with the popular school idol, Minami Tenjin. Learning that if they attain enough points, their current partners can be switched, both Jiro and Akari agree to put their differences aside and work together.

As the story proceeds, Jiro and Akari find themselves developing deeper feelings for each other as they "pretend" to get along, causing confusion between themselves as they struggle to sort out which feelings are real and which are not. Adding to the chaos is Shiori herself, who is revealed to also be in love with Jiro. Complications reach a near breaking point when during a time alone together, Minami tactfully turns down Akari's confession and helps her realize that she ended up actually falling in love with Jiro. Now with both girls aiming to have Jiro for themselves, Jiro himself struggles to decide which girl he should ultimately pursue.

However, as the story progresses she loses her crush on Minami and falls in love with Jirō for real. Now, her new goal is to become an actual couple with Jirō but struggles to put her feelings into clarity, as well as dealing with Jiro's own insecurities.

The woman, named Nozomi, was his former tutor that ended up marrying his older brother; it's hinted that his views on love are jaded due to accidentally witnessing his brother and Nozomi having sex with one another. Thanks to this conversation, Minami helps Akari realize that she is now in love with Jiro and wishes Akari luck with trying to win Jiro's heart.

More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers Season 2 Release Date, Trailer

In More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers, Jirou Yakuin, a third-year high school student, falls in love with his childhood buddy and classmate Shiori Sakurazaka, as a result, he wants to be matched with her for the “marriage practical,” which is their school’s tradition of randomly picking boy-girl pairs to live as mock married couples.

This happens while monitoring and grading their progress. Meanwhile, Akari Watanabe wishes to be paired with her crush, the popular and attractive Minami Tenjin, and Jirou and Akari are shocked to see that not only have they been matched together, but so have Shiori and Minami.

Jirou and Akari are determined to be with their crushes and work hard to collect as many points as possible, as the top 10 pairings get the privilege to transfer partners. This was the case for More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers, but what about Season 2?

    Akari Watanabe

As the day for the dissolution of the marital practical couple approaches, Jirou Yakuin will be forced to choose between Akari Watanabe and Shiori Sakurazak in More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers, but when is the 2nd season?

The studio and key crew working on More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers Season 2 have yet to be confirmed, the anime was developed for the 1st season by Japanese animation studio MOTHER, well known for its partnership with Studio Asread on the Arifureta anime TV series, so we are waiting for a word from them. The 1st season of the anime was available with English subtitles on Crunchyroll and VRV in Fall 2022 but not on Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, or Funimation.

More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers Episode 12 will be released on December 25, 2022, and the 12 episodes will be published in two Blu-Ray/DVD volumes on February 22, 2023, and March 24, 2023. In the meanwhile, fans can guess when or if the More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers Season 2 release date will be announced.

More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers poster

The reviews for More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers have been mixed for a rom-com anime with unexpectedly high-quality animation, and some of the early criticism from anime fans may be compared to Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out, which features a similar dynamic in which the female lead repeatedly belittles and teases the geeky protagonist.

In contrast to Uzaki-chan, Akari makes a strong first impression that is tough to overcome: Akari verbally and physically assaults Jirou until he creates boundaries, but then she quickly mood switches into tsundere mode instead of being haughty and unpleasant. We wonder what will happen in Season 2.

More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers Season 1 Ending Explained

    Jirō Yakuin

As the novel progresses, Jiro and Akari develop stronger love for one another while pretending to get along, generating uncertainty among themselves as they battle to determine which sentiments are genuine. Shiori herself, who is revealed to be in love with Jiro, adds to the confusion, and when Minami politely rejects Akari’s confession and helps her understand that she genuinely fell in love with Jiro during a moment alone together, complications reach a near-breakpoint.

Now that both females want Jiro, Jiro is having difficulty deciding which lady he should eventually pursue, and Shiori may have finally received the kiss she’s been after for the previous two episodes, but Jiro and Akari’s love tension is just growing. Akari is well aware that she likes Jiro, and Jiro must fully recover from his past with Shiori and have the confidence to understand Akari’s sentiments. With some episodes remaining in the season, viewers have a lot to look forward to as the love tension between Jiro and Akari.

Is More Than a Married Couple but Not Lovers a hentai?

    Shiori Sakurazaka

Fuufu Ijou, Koibito Miman is a slice-of-life/romance program about students who are working on a strange school project called simulated marriage, so it is not a hentai. The lucky pair must live together in the same house while acting as though they are married; their behavior directly impacts both of their marks on the project, but Jirou is an antisocial geek who is madly in love with his kindergarten classmate.

Basically, the narrative revolves around a loser attempting to achieve mark A on the project so he can alter the lady he’s with, while also being involved in a love triangle with his flatmate. To think that this series is this season’s Rent-A-Girlfriend and Osamake has convinced fans that it belongs on their watchlist and earned a full score as a magnificent work ever made. In conclusion, this series is not a hentai but a classic slice-of-life rom-com you can watch when you have free time.

More Than A Married Couple season 2 renewal status

As previously noted, More Than A Married Couple But Not Lovers has not yet been renewed for season 2, but what are the chances that the anime does return for a second broadcast?

Anime renewals typically depend on the availability of source material from an original light novel or manga series, as well as the popularity of the wider franchise.

More Than A Married Couple But Not Lovers episode 12 is expected to adapt up until volume 4 chapter 29 of the original manga by Yuki Kanamaru. The good news is that, as of December 2022, a total of nine complete Tankobon volumes have been published in Japan.

This means that there is indeed enough source material available to start production on More Than A Married Couple But Not Lovers season 2 straight away.

The only potential caveat is that More Than A Married Couple But Not Lovers has flown decidedly under the radar for many anime fans with generally positive, if not slightly underwhelming, scores and reviews.

Ahead of the season 1 finale, More Than A Married Couple But Not Lovers is scoring a 7.62/10 on MyAnimeList, 7.6/10 on IMDB, 3.9/5 on Anime Planet, and 74% on Anilist.

Whilst these scores are by no means a death sentence, they don’t fill us with absolute confidence as they indicate that the renewal will be more dependent on the domestic success of the anime in Japan.

The good news here is that More Than A Married Couple But Not Lovers is still the highest-scoring project from Studio Mother, the team behind the anime adaptation, on MyAnimeList.

As this is a smaller studio than many other production teams, the milder success of the series could be enough to encourage Studio Mother to produce another season; especially since they renewed Arifureta which scored lower than More Than A Married Couple.

Overall, we would argue that there is a higher-than-average chance that More Than A Married Couple But Not Lovers is renewed for season 2; however, domestic performances of both the anime and manga may now be the determining factors.
