Let the numbers be x and y .
According to given condition,
x = 3 y … … ( i ) x − y = 26 … … ( i i )
On solving (i) and (ii) we get,
x = 3 y [From (i)]
Substituting value of x in (ii)
3 y − y = 26 y = 13 Now, x = 3 y x = 3 ( 13 ) ⇒ x = 39 ∴ y = 13 , x = 39 ∴
The required numbers are 13 and 39.

The difference between two numbers is 26 and one number is three times the other. Find x and y.Answer:
Let the two numbers be x and y respectively, such that y > x.
According to the question,
y = 3x ……………… (1)
y – x = 26 …………..(2)
Substituting the value of (1) into (2), we get
3x – x = 26 x = 13 ……………. (3)
Substituting (3) in (1), we get y = 39
Hence, the numbers are 13 and 39.Related Questions

Correct option is A)
Let two numbers be x & y
x−y=26 ____ (1) x=3y ____ (2)
substituting (2) in (1) we get
3y−y−26 2y=26 y=13 x=3y from (2) x=3×13 x=39
we need to find sum of two numbers
x+y=39+13 =52
