Given:d(A) = 6 km t(B) = 6 hr D = 42 km
Formula used:S = d/t
Calculation:Let speed of the second man be x kmph
⇒ Distance covered by first person in 4 hours = 6 × 4
⇒ Distance covered by first person = 24 km
⇒ Distance travelled by second person in 4 hours = 4x km
⇒ Total distance travelled by both of them together in 4 hours = 42 km
⇒ 24 + 4x = 42 ⇒ 4x = 18 ⇒ x = 4.5 km/h
∴ the speed of the other person is 4.5 km/h.Download Solution PDF

Its an easy one , I have formulated a formula for this paticular kind of question , so let me show you that .
Since the time of collision is same so time will be constant and Distance = Speed × Time
s¹×t + s²×t = Distance Between them
45t + 25t = 0.7 km 70t = 0.7 t = 0.7/70
t = 1/100 hours or 36 seconds

When they run in opposite direction, relative speed =(45+25)=70 km/h
Hence the time taken to meet for the first time =0.7/70=0.01 hr=0.01×3600=36 minutes

Suppose they will meet after x seconds from the beginning.
Speed of 1st person=45000m/3600s=25/2 m/s
Distance travelled by 1st person=25/2*x m
Speed of 2nd person=25000m/3600s=125/18 m/s
Distance travelled by 2nd person=125/18*x m
25x/2+125x/18=700 225x+125x=12600 350x=12600 x=12600/350=36
Hence they will meet each other after 36 seconds from the beginning.

Two pipes A, B can fill a tank in 24 minutes and 32 minutes respectively. If both the pipes are opened simultaneously, after how much time B should be closed so that the tank is full in 18 min?
This method is not sacrosanct, but the whole purpose is to solve quickly, hence the technique. You may use fractions but I find it tedious and too bookish.
Let the capacity of the tank be 96 L ( LCM of 24 & 32 ) .You can assume any other number which is a multiple of these two numbers.
Hence, rate of filling of water by tap A = 96 / 24 = 4 L/min,
Similarly, for B( rate of filling) = 96 / 32 = 3 L / min
Since A is open for 18 mins water filled by it = 18 *4 = 72 L
Water filled by B = 96 -72 = 24 L ,so the time for which it was open = 24 / 3 = 8 mins.
So, B must be closed after 8 mins for the tank to b

Two trains are moving at 50 km/hr and 70 km/hr in opposite directions. The length is 150 and 100 m. What time will they take to pass each other?
The combined speed of the Trains= (50+70)= 120- Km/ h= 120 x 5/18 =100/3 = 33.33 m/sec.
Distance travelled = (150+100)= 250.
Time taken= Distance/Speed = 250/(100/3) = 7.5- seconds.

Two train are 180 m long and 120 m long both running in opposite directions at 48 km/hr and 42 km/he tespectively, how much time will they take to cross each other?
Relative speed of the trains = 48 + 42 = 90 km/hr. = 90/3.6 = 25 m/s
Total length of the trains = 180 + 120 = 300 m
Hence, time to cross each other = 300/25 = 12 sec.
