Why were Europeans fleeing to America in the nineteenth century?

There were a large number of reasons. Wars, famines, religious persecution, lack of freedom or economic opportunity in their home country. An example of the latter is my wife’s grandfather who emigrated from Ireland in 1930. He was the son of a farmer and in Ireland (the same is true of much of Europe at the time) the eldest son inherited everything. Since he was not the oldest, there was nothing for him in Ireland but he had relatives in the US who sponsored him coming over.

Why did Europeans emigrate to America in such numbers?

I know a lot of people here (north german countryside) left because of well, to sum it up, no chance to make it in life.

Your destiny was pretty much clear the moment you were born.

If you were born to noble parents, as the oldest son, you inherited it all and were sorted. Younger brothers were sent to become priests or monks - also sorted. Daughters got married off to other noble people or also sent off to monasteries.

As a farmer’s son, you would inherit the farm.

The second son though already, when lucky, could become the “Knecht” at another farm (original of the word “knight”) - basically,

Why didn't the Natives unite and resist the European invasion of the New World, especially when the first Europeans were so outnumbered and hanging by a thread at times?

For a start, the Europeans didn’t come as general invaders of the New World. They didn’t, for the most part, hop off the boats with guns blazing. Rather, they usually presented themselves as traders looking to exchange with native societies or at worst settlers moving in and more or less integrating themselves into the local political scene. They played an excellent game of divide and conquer, allying with some native groups against others.
